An introduction to my second painting collection, which reflects the sentiment of people of color in America today
I am American Painting Series deals with portraits of women of all shapes and colors with their faces painted with the American flag. This collection was inspired by a pencil rendering I did two years ago. These sketches started as a fashion series about ethnic hair & beauty, but after scanning the piece in Photoshop and playing around with the textures in PSD I was intrigued to add the American flag.
I am American, The concept for the painting series
It came to me later that I wanted to make a statement because I didn’t want to get political or social just patriotic. Sometimes I feel like I should not have to remind people than I was born here. I am American. As a human being its human nature for people to see my skin color first, my gender, my possible heritage, and then my personality/character.
Unfortunately today we live in this age of information overload and cultural polarization. We make snap judgments in that order most of the time. Therefore, I wanted to change that order of judgment by replacing the skin color of each subject with the flag so you are forced to see each subject as an American first and their ethnicity last.
Why can’t we multitask? You can be a Patriot and be a Proud Black Woman at the same time.
I realize we live in a global world but that doesn’t make me any less of a patriot, I am from a line of many veterans and current soldiers of all US Branches. I grew up as a “Military Brat” so I saw the sacrifice first hand.
bring the country together by seeing each other as “Americans First” Because at the end of the day we are ALL AMERICANS.

Many Thanks to all of my art fans and helpers. Iy have received overwhelmingly great feedback about this series. As a result, I plan to make them available for sale as prints and other possible merchandise in development. The plan is to add more paintings like this
